Tenerife is a volcanic island formed in the late Tertiary Age. In the center of the island, the impressive cone of Teide (3,718 m) rises up over the Caldera de Las Cañadas, forming the highest point of Spain. The rugged island terrain and the variety of climates has produced a territory of many different landscapes and forms, from the Teide National Park to Los Gigantes Cliffs with their vertical walls, with semi-desert areas with their drought-resistant plants in the south, valleys of tropical and sub-tropical crops, areas of laurel forests in the Anaga and Teno massifs and large areas of pine forest above the laurel forests relicts of the Tertiary Age. The wide variety of climates and landscapes in Tenerife is matched by a wealth of ecosystems, each with its own characteristic flora and fauna.
The Island´s climate is mild due to the prevailing winds, the island orography and the cold Canary current. There are no seasons of extreme cold or suffocating heat. Average temperatures fluctuate between 17º and 18º C in winter, up to 24º or 25º C in summer.
Despite its small size (2,034 Km2), Tenerife has a surprisingly rich biological diversity due to its special climate. The abundance of micro-climates and natural habitats is clearly reflected in the rich and varied vegetation to be found on the island: 1400 species of higher plants, including 140 species endemic to Tenerife.
The IBEROSTAR MENCEY Hotel is situated in an undisturbed residential area, close to García Sanabria Park, and less than 10 km from the international airport in Los Rodeos.
Among its facilities you will find a Tropical garden, a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, etc. The rooms are provided with air-conditioning, TV, piped music, WIFI connectivity and telephone.
Travel and Transportation
The best way to get to Tenerife is by plane, via Tenerife South-Reina Sofía Airport or Tenerife North-Los Rodeos Airport.
About ten Spanish airports have flight connections with Tenerife North airport and almost 75 worldwide airports connect with Tenerife South airport.
Tenerife South airport, in Costa Adeje, is approximately 60 km far from the hotel, while Tenerife North airport is 10 km far.
In most cases Madrid Airport Barajas will be used as transfer when coming from non-European countries. There are daily flights connecting worldwide locations and Madrid. Madrid-Tenerife is a 2.5 hour flight operated by IBERIA or other Spanish regular airlines.
There is a very good bus service - here buses are called guaguas . These buses of the company TITSA (green buses) run frequently and cheaply. They are quite comfortable and are air-conditioned. Taxis are inexpensive compared to European standards. Renting a car may also be an alternative.
If you are arriving at Tenerife South Airport (TFS) Reina Sofia: A direct bus service, line 111, to the main bus terminal in Santa Cruz, leaves the airport at 23:30, 00:55, 02:35, 04:30 and from 06:00 to 22:00 every 30 minutes. Price of one way ticket is 9 euros.
If you are arrive at Tenerife North Airport (TFN) Los Rodeos: There are several lines to Santa Cruz: 102, 107, 108.
A Taxi can be up to 80 euros from the TFS airport and 18 euros to get to the hotel from the northern airport.
